If you are looking for a slightly quieter Midwest family vacation how about Mackinac Island?
A trip here is like stepping back in time. This is one of those perfect vacations in the Midwest for families who love nature.
On Mackinac Island cars are prohibited and horse-drawn carriages are the norm and everything is just so cute and charming.

When it comes to places to visit in the Midwest my guess is Chicago is on most people’s list.
While it is a busy place I found it quite child-friendly.
Chicago has endless attractions for families, from Millennium Park and Navy Pier to the Shedd Aquarium and the Science and Industry Museum.
Chicago is also home to the world-renowned Lincoln Park Zoo, one of the oldest zoos in the country and free to the public.
For a unique experience, take an architectural boat tour along the Chicago River. It’s a fairly relaxed way to see all the sights.

In West Bloomington you will find Hyland Lake Park Reserve which offers a breathtaking prairie landscape.

If you are there in October, Hyland Hills Ski Area opens up its chairlifts for rides one weekend in October and the Bloomington farmers market is always wonderful.
